Gourmet brittle and brittle popcorn manufacturer celebrates SQF Level 2 Certification
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, May 3, 2017– Big Dipper Food Company is proud to announce that it has been awarded certification for SQF (Safe Quality Foods) Level 2. The achievement is a great accomplishment for Big Dipper Food Company and places the company among the top suppliers that passed the rigorous desk and facility audits that certification entails.
The Safe Quality Food Program is one of several standards recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an industry driven organization dedicated to the safety of the food supply chain through the benchmarks set forth for the development and implementation of food safety management system controls.
There are three levels of certification for the SQF Standard and Level 2 is the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) food safety program. The standard ensures suppliers worldwide are held to the same universal food safety standard. The scope of Big Dipper Food Company’s registration, under SQF Level 2 certification, includes the manufacturing of its gourmet brittles and brittle popcorn products.
“SQF Level 2 certification is a huge accomplishment for [Big Dipper Food Company]. It demonstrates our dedication to quality and food safety and will allow us to grow now more than ever, in an industry that is requiring the implementation of stricter food safety and quality programs,” says Adam Seidler, the company’s Quality and Food Safety Manager, in a prepared statement.
Big Dipper Food Company has always manufactured its gourmet brittles and brittle popcorn products with the highest quality and a strong focus on food safety, however SQF Level 2 certification will enable the company to continue its growth, as many larger buyers require a form of GFSI certification.
Big Dipper Food Company was founded in 2005 in Warren, Ohio by John Cayten and Marty Seidler. As the company grew with the manufacture of its gourmet brittle and brittle popcorn products, the company relocated in 2010 to its current facility, in Youngstown, Ohio.
